These fine dusts can reach the pulmonary alveoli via the respiratory tract and cause respiratory problems or other health problems if ingested over a long period of time. In addition, rising fine dust can contaminate the mixture to be produced or trigger uncontrolled reactions with other substances, which can lead to the formation of hazardous substances.
ATEX for Decanting and emptying
There is also a risk of explosion in bulk material processes, such as a flour dust explosion. When decanting and emptying explosive dusts, such as flour, aluminium powder, titanium sponge or aluminium carbide, dangerous dust-air mixtures can be created, which can lead to serious explosions if ignited.
The ATEX directives exist to minimise these dangers. ATEX stands for ‘ATmosphères EXplosives’ and comprises EU guidelines on safety in potentially explosive atmospheres. Many extraction systems from ESTA are optionally available in an ATEX version and are therefore also suitable for use in such areas, such as Zone 22.
