Medical technology: Wet separator removes combustible grinding dust
Hartmut Götz, founder of HG Micro Instrumente based in Wurmlingen in the Black Forest, was looking for a suitable extraction solution for the new 25 square meter grinding room. “Since flying sparks and combustible dusts are generated at the four workplaces, which can form an explosive atmosphere when mixed with air, the experts from ESTA advised us to use a wet separation process,” Götz recalled. The new DUSTOMAT HYDRO wet separator takes into account the legal requirements in accordance with DGUV Rule 109-001 and reduces the risk of an explosion to a minimum - thanks to a patent-pending water separation technology.
The water separation technology is based on a hydrocyclone and already makes sparks and combustible dust almost completely harmless in the first filter stage, with a separation efficiency of 98.7 percent. Even the smallest particles are safely bound in the water vortex chamber, which protects the subsequent filter media and extends their service life
In addition, ESTA tailored the performance, filter package and system design precisely to the grinding applications and needs of HG Micro Instrumente and designed the unit in an Atex-compliant version and with a multi-stage filter system. This allows the filtered air to be returned in recirculation mode, which saves energy costs in winter compared to exhaust air mode.
